Arlington Washington - you are my home away from comedy.
Last night I did my first feature spot for Comedy West. Emcee: Charles Darby - Headliner: Susan Rice. My set wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, although my dad might tell you differently, "really? Hmmm..." It was nice of my family to show up. My sister lives in Arlington and she's got that kid so she can't get down to Seattle to see my shows much. For that, I love Shotze's, for every other reason, I hate it.
All right, I don't hate it. I thought I did, but I was just being judgemental. The crowd was actually pretty nice (those who were paying attention). They were laughing without sound, apparently raukus behaviour is outlawed at Shotze's unless you're an asshole.
I've become a lot more comfortable on stage and the funny thing was that I wasn't nervous at all. I just sort of didn't care. After all, I'm only in the biz for the big bucks and I'm getting my money whether I have a good show or not. Ha!
Susan Rice is awesome. Not only is she funny, but she is incredibly supportive and she knows what she's doing. I told her that I got into the San Francisco Comedy Competition and she was very excited about that - confirmation that I made the right decision.
Now let's just see if I can afford it... emotionally.
Here's an idea: I think it would be fantastic to go down to San Francisco a few days early and check out the comedy scene, maybe see if I can do a show or something, or even just watch some shows. I think it would be good to see what my audience is like. Of course, that would require some effort on my part and well... I can't even finish this blog.
